SAFE Space offers 20 days of immediate crisis shelter for families who are at the highest risk of being killed or seriously injured by the abuser. These confidential apartment units are fully furnished and provide the basic necessities for a family coming to SAFE immediately following a violent incident. Often families come to us with little but the clothes on their backs.
SAFE Space provides a safe and quiet apartment in which a family can recover, obtain the necessary social services to immediately sustain themselves and begin to make longer-term decisions about their future.
SAFE staff is on site to assist with these important next steps, and a counselor is available on site through our partnership with My Sister’s Place to allow families to begin the healing process as quickly as possible after entering SAFE Space.
While apartments are furnished through donations and collaboration with the Salvation Army and A Wider Circle, to name a few, we are constantly in need of consumable items and smaller household necessities. Some of the items we need regularly are:
- Pots and pans/cooking items
- Laundry detergent
- Toilet paper
- Dish soap (trial size or larger)
- Bags for 50 gallon trash cans
- Body soap
- Deodorant
- Tooth brushes
- Tooth paste
- Kitchen towels
- Shampoos and conditioners (travel size)
- Silverware
- Pack and plays
- Baby formula, diapers and bottles
