SAFE’s Court Advocacy Program staff provides crisis intervention to survivors accessing the Domestic Violence Intake Centers for help, and supports them as they navigate the judicial system. Advocates serve as a direct link to community resources to assist victims in maintaining their safety and fulfilling immediate social service needs. SAFE Interns aid in this process by assisting SAFE Advocates in their individual caseloads and by taking on some of the Advocate’s direct job functions.
Court Advocacy Program Interns may find themselves interviewing clients and writing petitions for civil protection orders, safety planning with clients, accompanying them to court for their hearings, making referrals to social service programs, and locating additional resources for SAFE clients. Interns also help with data entry, filing, and other duties as assigned.
Court Advocacy Program Interns are recruited on a semester basis and commit a minimum of 15 hours per week. We will assist interns in obtaining course credit for the internship if requested. Forty-hours of training is required. Most of this training occurs after regular business hours and on weekends for the convenience of students and those who work full-time.
